Midwest Young Drivers’ Camp

Location & Lodging: Domino Stables, Baraboo Wisconsin. Campers can commute or stay for free as the
guests of members of the Dairyland Driving Club.
Cost: $120.00 for ADS members $160.00 for non-members

This camp is designed for the experienced beginner
driver. The Dairyland Driving Club members have
donated their seasoned driving horses and ponies and
themselves to help educate the next generation of drivers
in the Midwest. The focus of the camp will be on the
finer points of driving in ADS pleasure and combined
driving events. This camp is made possible by the generous
contributions to the ADS Fund in memory of Lyle
Matheson.

Young Driver and USEF Long‐Listed Pony Driver Training
Date: July 16-18, 2009
Registration: Only 8 campers will be accepted.
Interested campers must submit a brief driving resume
to their ADS Regional Director, by May 15, 2009. who will select the
representative from their region.
Location and Lodging: Big Sky Farm, Southern Pines.
North Carolina; local housing will be provided.
Cost: $600.00 Scholarships are available from the ADS
Fund.
Age of Campers: 14 - 21

Complete Information and Application
All current ADS Member Young Drivers 14-21 are encouraged to apply to
attend a training camp at Big Sky Farm in Southern Pines NC. This is being
held in conjunction with US Equestrian Federation Pony World Championship
Training with Team Coach Boyd Excel . Your request to attend should be sent by
May 15 to your Regional Director. A list of Regional Directors and their contact
information is in the front of each copy of the Whip. ADS Member Young
drivers are eligible for need based grants of up to $500 to defray the cost of
attending the Big Sky Camp. There are eight positions available for young
drivers at this camp.
Young Drivers will be paired with a USEF Pony Driver on Thursday and
Friday. Mr. Excel will be giving USEF Drivers individual lessons throughout
both days. The youngsters will shadow their mentoring drivers and will be given
lessons by them each day. Turnouts used will preferably be the Young Drivers if
feasible, the USEF Drivers, or one may be arranged by the host. Saturday will be
devoted entirely to interaction between USEF and Young Drivers. In addition to
the practical experience there will be lectures, games and interaction with Mr.
Excel all designed to enhance driving knowledge and skills in an enjoyable
format.
The Training Session and Young Drivers Camp is hosted for the sixth year
at Claire Reid’s Big Sky Farm, who is generously making available an
outstanding facility including top level hazards, dressage and cones training
areas and permanent stabling. It is a unique opportunity for young drivers to
benefit from the tutelage of our most successful drivers and their world
championship coach.
Carriage Barn Young Drivers’ Camps
Date: Week 1 (Beginners) -- July 13 – 17, 2009
Week 2 (Advanced) -- July 27 - 31, 2009
Week 3 (Beginner / Intermediate) -- August 10 – 14, 2009
Registration: Confirmed upon receipt of full payment. Registration & Waiver can be obtained from The Carriage Barn.
Location & Lodging: The Carriage Barn, 6 Sarah’s Way, Newton, New Hampshire 03858. Kids can either commute or stay overnight in the carriage house for an additional $40 per night.
Age of Campers: Week 1 -- 10 yrs and younger; Week 2 -- 10 yrs and older; Week 3 -- 10 yrs and older.
Cost: Week 1 -- $500 per student, includes use of Carriage Barn horse. $35 per horse per night for stabling if you bring your own.
Week 2 -- $800 per student, includes use of Carriage Barn horse. $35 per horse per night for stabling if you bring your own.

- July 13th – 17th – Kids Driving Clinic Week #1 – For Young Beginner students (ages 10 and under) who need to know “everything” there is to know about ponies, horses, and carts. No previous experience required. Students will be introduced to harnessing, the history of carriages, and receive driving instruction each day. Space is limited. Parental supervision is not required.
- July 27th – 31st – Kids Driving Clinic Week #2 – For Advanced students ages 10 and up that are ready for competition level. Dana Bright will instruct this week’s clinic. Dana’s carriage driving experiences include competing at Advanced Combined Driving Event Level with single and pair, and at pleasure shows with singles, pairs, and unicom. She holds “R” cards for pleasure and combined driving, pleasure TD, and dressage with The American Driving Society. Dana also judges United States Equestrian Federation pleasure and combined driving shows. Space is limited. Parent supervision is not required.
- August 10th – 14th – Kids Driving Clinic Week #3 – For Beginner & Intermediate Drivers ages 10 and up. The clinic will include harnessing and the history of carriages. Driving instruction each day. Space is limited. Parental supervision is not required.
